We Have the White iPhone 4! Kind of…

With all the recent talk of the mysterious white iPhone 4 being delayed again, or possibly even cancelled, it seems folks who have been patiently waiting, are now out of luck. Well, if you’re willing to put out a little extra money and a bit of work, you can have your very own white iPhone 4. Kind of.

The iPhone 4′s back battery cover is very easy to replace. If you could get your hands on a white one, it’s just a matter of removing 2 screws, sliding off the cover, replacing the cover, then replacing the screws. Head over to Mobile Parts Discount, to find all the replacement parts you might need for many different Apple iDevices. They were nice enough to build this back cover for me, with the frame from a black iPhone 4, and the glass of a white iPhone 4. You may have to order the parts separate, and build it yourself. You could just order the white glass, and build it into your existing frame. We did not attempt replace the front, but I prefer to have the front in black, anyway.

Here’s a quick video showing how to replace the back cover of the iPhone 4. Typically, the only reason you would want to do this, is if you dropped your iPhone 4 and the back glass cover broke. In my case, I’m just trying out the white back cover.

MobileMe Mail – Push Fix

I have spoken with many MobileMe users this past month; all with the same issues in common. MobileMe’s Mail push has been very sluggish, if not pushing at all. The only way known is to physically click on the mail icon, on your iPhone (I too have been suffering from this). After scouring the net, live chat with the MobileMe Team and phone support, I have found this solution.

These following steps are what fixed it for me:

Delete MobileMe from your iPhone (keep existing data when prompted).
Through Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Add Account. Input your information under MobileMe tab.
When inputting your information include only Lower Case letters for your email address (name is OK).
Merge account information when prompted with MobileMe to preserve your Contacts, Notes, ect.
If you own more then one iDevice, this may need to be done with all of them using the same account.
Reboot your iDevices.

It would appear that MobileMe had some issues with the upgraded iOS on our iDevices and simply needed to be reset to make a fresh connection. My MobileMe Mail on my iPhone didn’t start pushing properly until I reinstalled it on my iPad.

This list provided was a collaboration of online chat support, and phone support. These steps may not be required for all users, but the following steps are what fixed my MobileMe Mail’s push.

How To: Fix iTunes 10 Vertical Buttons To Horizontal

With the release of the new and revamped iTunes 10, Apple repositioned the minimize, maximize, and close buttons vertically. Some users like the new layout and others don’t. For the users that don’t, luckily there’s a fix. Simply follow the steps below to make the vertical buttons on iTunes 10 horizontal.

Step 1: Quit iTunes.

Step 2: Open Terminal (if you’re not familiar with it, it’s located under Applications > Utilities > Terminal).

Step 3: Type or Paste the following into Terminal and then hit enter “defaults write com.apple.iTunes full-window -1″.

Step 4: Open iTunes, and notice that balance has been restored.

Voila! The spotlight buttons will now appear horizontal.

Optional: To change the buttons back, do the same steps but write the following command: “defaults write com.apple.iTunes full-window -int -0″

How to: Set Up Hotmail, with ActiveSync, on Your iPhone

Last week, we told you the Hotmail on the iPhone would be getting push support, like MS Exchange. Well, thanks to our friends at iPhoneinCanada.ca, I was able to get it working on my iPhone 4. Here’s how: rorypiper

On your iDevice, go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Add Account.

Tap on Microsoft Exchange. Input the following information:

Email: Your Hotmail address (yourname@hotmail.com)
Domain: Leave it blank
Username: Your Hotmail address (yourname@hotmail.com)
Password: Your Hotmail password
Description: Hotmail

Tap on Next. Once the account is verified, a new “Server” field will appear. When it does, input the following:

Server: m.hotmail.com

Now enable push for either Mail, Contacts, or Calendar or all three.

That’s it. Your Hotmail should now be working just like an Exchange email address, with ActiveSync. We have only tried this with a Hotmail address, so not sure if it’s working with Windows Live emails the same way. If you happen to try, let us know how it went, by commenting below!
