iPhone App Review: 1Password

If you’re looking for a way to securely lock all your passwords into a single app, this app is exactly what you’re looking for. For $6.99, you get a filing system with an elegant and simple interface, as with an double password system. It allows you to save as many website profiles, passwords, and secure notes as you like very easily. It comes with a number of predetermined profile types, but also provides you with options to create your own profiles as well.

1Password is rich with features that other password logging apps may not provide. If you have desktop client for Mac, 1Password for iPhone can sync wirelessly. The app also wirelessly can backup over a wifi network, although this process is not for the novice Internet user as it requires you to access your iPhone via a browser on the computer.

One of my personal favorite features is the password generator. Using a slider and a couple additional options, the app will generate a secure password which can then be added directly into a new profile.

Perhaps the most interesting prospect is what this app may be able to do jn the future with upcoming APIs in iOS4. The OSX version is very deeply integrated into the overall experience of the system, and I’m hopeful that 1Password will expand their horizons as well as the next generation of the iPhone begins.

Verdict: While 1Password is a bit pricey at $6.99, it does a ton. If you’re really in need of a place to store a bunch of passwords, credit card numbers, etc, this is the app for you. If you have the desktop version, it’s a no-brainer. If you don’t need something this all encompassing, go ahead and pass as it’s not worth the money if you’re not going to use it to the fullest.

8.5/10
