New iPhone 4 Skins Fixing the Antenna Issue
We recently heard that Apple’s solution to the smart phone antenna issue, is to put the phone in a case. When it comes to Apple’s iPhone, the design is quite elegant, and most people do not want to put their iPhone in a case. Apple’s Bumper only covers the antenna, but still changes the look of the overall design.
If you don’t like having your iPhone in a case, there are other options. There are simple skins to cover your iPhone, and some of them are now coming with coverage for the antenna, fixing the attenuation issue. I have received skins from ZAGG, Gelaskins, and Ghost Armor, and they all come with coverage for the antenna.
I was one of the early adopters of this one. I have always loved ZAGG’s products, and jumped at the iPhone 4 invisibleSHIELD when it was released. In this case I got burned, as the original release didn’t include the antenna coverage. I have contacted ZAGG to see if they can send me the antenna coverage, as well, but I have not received a response yet.
Gelaskins have always been super stylish, with lots of great designs from lots of great artists. Their iPhone 4 skins are no different. It comes with coverage for the back and the front (excluding the screen), and includes coverage for the sides of the antenna. This is enough to cover the bridge between antennae, solving the attenuation issue.
Ghost Armor is another clear protection for the iPhone 4. Their full body kit comes with full coverage all the way around the antenna. I have not used Ghost Armor on an iPhone 4, but I am using it on my iPad, and I can barely tell anything is on there. It is really clear, with no “orange peel” effect. It is really smudge resistent, and any smudges you might get on there, wipe off with just your finger.
I also have some skins on the way from Phantomskinz, which also include front, back, and antenna coverage.
I’ll have more in-depth reviews of these, if I ever get my hands on an iPhone 4, but this should give you some other choices, besides a big bulky case.
