Rumor: Rogers to Offer Early Upgrade to iPhone 4

This is just a rumor, but a rumor that has some ties to reality.

While at the mall today, I stopped by “Wireless Wave”. They are a 3rd party mobile phone retailer, that deals with multiple carriers. This is where I got my iPhone 3GS last year. I asked one of the representatives if they had any info on the iPhone 4 release. After talking with him for a bit, it was apparent that I knew more than he did, about the iPhone 4, but he did say something that I have heard rumor of already. Apparently, there’s a good chance Rogers will be offering early upgrade, for the iPhone 4, to current iPhone owners.

This rep didn’t have much else to tell me, but this does kind of confirm what some one over at iPhone in Canada was saying in the comments of an article. A reader by the name of “owais” posted this:

I just got off the phone with a very knowledgable Rogers CSR. Apparently they all had an update meeting earlier today regarding the iphone 4 launch.

There is no pricing update on it yet. However the good news is that all current smartphone users from Rogers will be eligible to upgrade to iphone 4 starting July 30th as long as you got your current smartphone prior to June 7th 2010. The price will be the exact same as what everyone else will be paying for it so no penalties to existing ubscribers. Usually the earliest you can upgrade your smart phone is every 2 years.

You will be able to place upgrade orders online, in store or via CSR agent.

I have also noticed that when I log into MyAccount, at Rogers.com, and click on “Upgrade My iPhone” in the hardware section, it just refreshes the page. Clicking this used to take you to a list of iPhones that Rogers had to offer, so it would seem they are making some changes there.  It would be great if they activated upgrading to the iPhone 4, so we could receive the new iPhone on launch day!

As for pricing, we can only speculate that it will be the same as the iPhone 3GS, but we’ll have to wait and see. Only 8more days until iPhone 4 hits Canada!

    Yah! Although I already have the $30/6GB plan, it's handy as I tether my iPhone 3GS to WiFi iPad daily :) :)

    I trust “Wireless Wave” as much as I can throw their god damn kiosk. Greasy salespeople.

    Ahaha. Well, the guy I talked to wasn't “greasy”, and in my town they have a full retail store, not just a kiosk. Like I said; I knew way more about it than he did.
