Top Dog – ZAGG vs. Ghost-Armor

This is a review between the ZAGG invisibleSHIELD and the Ghost-Armor:

  • Both offer a clear film for your device.
  • Both provide amazing protection.
  • Both offer full body protection.
  • Both are battling to see who will reign supreme.

First up is the ZAGG invisibleSHIELD

(Read our previous reviews: ZAGG InvisibleSHIELD iPad. Buy Now & Save 20%, ZAGGSkin Installed on iPhone 3GS, ZAGG invisibleSHIELD Installed On MacBook Pro. Order Now & Save 20%)

The ZAGG company right off the bat has some very unique attributes if you decide to pick their case, such as:

  • Scratch Proof
  • Lifetime Warranty
  • 45 day money back guarantee
  • Trusted worldwide with over 7 million invisibleSHIELDs sold
  • Military grade patented material engineered for your specific device
  • Unique properties provide self-healing qualities
  • Helps reduce the appearance of fingerprint smudges and smears

Now to the case itself, the ZAGG invisibleSHIELD is a clear film which offers a wide range of protection for your device including:

  • Durability – Self-healing properties offer unbelievable resistance to scratches and damage, and will extend the life of your device.
  • Coverage – Greater pliability and flexibility allows the invisibleSHIELD™ designs to cover the corners and curves of your device better than the competition.
  • Ease of Install – The improved pliability also facilitates easier installation.
  • Drop Resistant – Improved grip makes it easier to hang onto your expensive gadgets.
  • Glare Reduction – The invisibleSHIELD gives your device a slight “orange peel” finish that breaks up glare and reduces finger print smudges, while still creating high res screen viewing clarity.

But what’s in the box?

  • ZAGG invisibleSHIELD
  • ZAGG solution
  • ZAGG squeegie

Niko’s opinion:

Great scratch proof case, however the orange peel affect is a negative, but it’s still a great product.

Now it’s time to meet the Ghost-Armor.

The Ghost-Armor Company offers the following:

  • 30-Day Money Back Guarantee
  • LIFETIME Warranty
  • No Bulk Added
  • Reduces Grease
  • Clear Scratch Proof Protection
  • Improved Grip
  • FedEx Shipping
  • Ships within 1-2 business days

As far as what the case offers, there is an answer for that, well maybe a few answers:

  • You’ll receive the same extreme protection for your Apple iTouch 2nd Gen that the military helicopter blades, fighter jets wingtips and the space shuttle’s wingtips receive.
  • Without bulk, creases, bubbles, or that orange peel look.
  • Protection from scratches and dings.
  • Lifetime Warranty.
  • Repels grease and oils.

So what’s in the Box?

  • 1 Apple iTouch 2nd Gen Ghost-Armor
  • 1 Spray Bottle of Ghost-Armor Application Solution
  • 1 Squeegee

Niko’s Opinion:

Great case with scratch proof and smudge proof protection, basically beat up ZAGG, and no orange peel affect, hooray! (the iTouch 2nd generation is the device that both cases were applied to for testing)

Who is the winner?

I’m giving the win to Ghost-Armor on this one! Amazing quality, scratch proof, no smudges, and no orange peel affect. Great job Ghost-Armor!

Ya I used the invisibleShield and it works great but eventually after about 4-months of in&outing of the pocket with my iPhone the edges eventually slowly peel up allowing dirt to stick to create an ugly mess.

Don't get me wrong though…that's were the life time warranty comes into effect :D
but it is of course a slight hassle

Same thing happens to me with my invisibleSHIELD. I'm sure it happens to all iDevices users ;) Warranty from ZAGG is awesome! I love ZAGG products and I highly recommend them. Especially custom made ZAGGskins.

try to touch it when your hands is sweating, the Zagg is better because of orange peel affect
in that case, orange peel affect isn't problem man!!!, how you sure about “smudge proof protection”??? we need to see a vedio to prove that!

  • am0_oma

does the Ghost-Armor turn to yellow after 3 month????

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_O7RDF4EGCBLQF2HSPOMSAGYPQQ Al Nunez

ZAGG does turn yellow in about 3 months and does peel but better than nothing I had put it on my LG Shine- I am putting ZAGG on my Samsung Captivate tonight – but my wife wants to use Ghost Armor so I will know first hand and if Ghost Armor doesn’t turn yellow I will replace ZAGG on the Captivate with Ghost Armor.

I have had Ghost Armor on 3 iPhones and my 17″ Mac Book Pro. This stuff is great, it does not scratch or dent when thrown in my pocket with keys and coins or in my brief case. I had one of my iPhone 4′s replaced and instead of driving 10 miles to another Mall, I had the Zagg stuff put on at the Mall I got the new phone at. The best I can say for Zagg is it is OK! I does have a distinct Orange Peel look to it and it gets dent marks from objects in your pocket or brief case which the Ghost Armor does not get. Also, it seems to appear dirty more often. Both do what they say they do, but the Ghost Armor is a better product. I will probably replace the Zagg product on my iPhone 4 with Ghost Armor the next time I visit the other Mall.

  • G2man

I just had the Ghost armor put on my iPhone 3GS at the mall with clear on the front and matt finish on the back. The matt finish looks great and improves the grip.

Yeah but the invisibleShield life time warranty does not cover things like peel up’s around the edges! When I tried to get mine replaced because of the same issue it was cited as “installation error” and was not covered by the warranty. Kinda of chaps my ass considering I paid best buy to install the damn thing. They basically cited on their web page covered offenses as “physical damage” to the coating. I had the Ghost Armor installed today at the mall, and they have promised a lifetime guarantee as well, including if it was to peel up at the corners. All I have to do is bring it back in and provide my name.

  • bburch11

I’m sorry, but I’ve had the invisible shield on my iPhone for about 9 months now and have seen no discoloration in it nor has it started peeling.

I have zagg on my iPad and ghost armor on my iPhone 4. For me Ghost Armor is the clear choice due to the clean appeance, no orange peel affect, though it does not bother me all that much on th iPad. Had both installed at the mall by the vendors and don’t remember what the deal was with Zagg, but Ghost Armor has a lifetime warranty and if it peals or gets damaged in any way, they will replace it for only the price of installation which was around $10. Zagg may have a similar deal. Oh and don’t ever buy anything from Best/ Worst Buy.

I have had both invisibleshield and ghost armor on my phone…ghost armor is by far the better as far as smudges go. With ghost armor I don’t have to get cleaner to clean my phone off I can just get a cloth and i don’t get near as many smudges on my phone now with this product as i did with invisibleshield.

  • Ttaylor6953

I’ve now had two Zagg shields and they both did the same thing.  I have the Zagg keyboard for Ipad and the screen develops black lines down the side where the off/on switch is on the keyboard.  It runs the full length of the invisible Shield.  Contacted them twice but no resolution.  I’m taking this one off and installing Ghost Armor.  Will never buy another Zagg product

Ghost armor is what you want and need on your phone or anything you need protected they do everything from watch’s to cars check it out

  • Rf543

GA is fine if you want to look like everyone else , but if you want protection and fashion go with zagg. i put mine on 3 months ago and havent had any problems. easy install

  • Rf543

as for the zagg warrenty it will only cost me the postage for returning back to them for a new one. which is cool cause if you are like me and get the next new gadget as soon as it comes out then this is a great deal for us, plus not too many cases really protect the insides of the gadget from the fall.

  • 543

hey install for both is easy unless you have all thumbs, zagg u can take it off and ship it back for a new one (no questions asked, and G-A you got to go deal with those punks in the mall. i change phones all the time so a lifetime warranty dont help much, but when i call zagg they are nice and helpfull, not some punk trying to sell, the wait for it in the mail sucks but so does the one in the mall, if i screw up my phone i know what to do, the punks screw it up i dont find out for a couple hours then they deni it. so for me i will stick with zagg. not to mention u can costumize it with zagg

I had Zagg on my 3GS and just switched to Ghost Armor for my white 4S. After one day, Ghost Armor wins hands down. It is thinner, and has very little orange peel, which is only noticeable under very limited lighting conditions. I never put Zagg on my screen because it’s too tacky. While Ghost Armor is slightly more tacky than bare glass, it really hasn’t been noticeable for swiping, and actually helps when typing. If you want this protection to truly be invisible, go with Ghost Armor. The only advantage Zagg has is that it offers more grip due to the heavy orange peel and thicker film. Ghost Armor lets me engage with my iPhone the way it was designed and gives me relief that I won’t scuff the device.

The Zagg film yellows after a few weeks. I am curious to see how the Ghost Armor does, but with the lifetime warranty, I wouldnt mind getting clean film installed every few months anyways if needed. With Zagg, I knew my white iPhone would have a yellow tint in a few weeks, which I see with the film on the back of my iPad.

This product is great, BUT the service is horrible.  We had this placed on our iphone and 11 days later we had to have it replaced because the person that put it on said that he must have put it on wrong so he was going to replace it.  In the process he said that it was going to cost us $5.00 to replace it.  Of corse we were mad and let him know that it was just put on and we have to pay again.  He said you only have 7 days to have something fixed after the armor is placed.  This dude really got pissed at us and preceded to have an argument in the mall.  Needless to say they lost money on the phone and ipad that we were getting ready to have this armor put on, and all of the people around us that heard this conversation left and did not get the armor placed onto their phones.

  • Onusconsulting

after 3 months, the Ghost Armor turned slightly grey (definitely darker)- the white iphone’s home button is pristine white, and the contrast is now very noticeable-  the brightness as a result of the “tint” is dimmer, but not an issue (probably never will be).
Dents in the plastic from having keys in the same pocket- but not noticeable when the screen is on. No peeling since it was done by the Kiosk outside the Apple store (interesting that Ghost Armor kiosk at Burlington Mall, MA- where Mall Cop was shot- is now a Zagg kiosk).
