Facebook App For iPhone and iPod Touch Updated To v3.2.3

Facebook’s official iPhone/iPod Touch application has been updated to version 3.2.3. In this new version, they’ve improved more streamlined login experience for developers using the Facebook SDK and numerous bug fixes. Facebook app is free to download in the App Store, and offers many of the features you’d expect:

Use your iPhone to start a conversation with Facebook Chat.
Check your friends’ latest photos and status updates.
Look up a phone number .
Upload your own mobile photos to Facebook while on the go.

Note: Places is only available for users in the US at the moment. We’re working on making this available in other countries soon.

What’s new in v3.2.3:

Improved, more streamlined login experience for developers using the Facebook SDK
Fixed a crash when receiving push notifications
Fixed a crash when navigating in Messages
Fixed inconsistent notification counts in notification bar and application badge
Fixed a problem where people would appear twice in Here Now on a Place view

We just found out about this crazy new social network, called “Facebook“, or something, so we thought we’d try it out. rorypiper

Facebook App Updated For iOS 4, iPhone 4

Facebook updated their Facebook app for iPhone, with support for iOS 4 fast app switching (multitasking), high-resolution graphics, and minor bug fixes. Unfortunately there is still no Facebook app for iPad.

FarmVille Now Available In App Store

During WWDC 2010, Zynga announced and demoed it’s popular Facebook online game FarmVille. It appears Apple has approved FarmVille and is now available to download in the App Store worldwide for free.

Facebook Update Brings Video to iPhone

The Facebook app for iPhone and iPod Touch has been updated to 3.1.3. This update is mainly for a few ongoing bugs, but it also brings support for video playback on iPhone and iPod Touch.

New features in this version:

- You can now watch Facebook videos.
- You can now view and write on walls of events.
- Uploaded photos are now 720px wide.

This version contains fixes for the following bugs:

- Could not comment on photos accessed from Notifications
- Could not upload photos smaller than a certain size
- No more than 2 notifications were highlighted as unread
- Status updates appeared out of order in News Feed
- Broken photo album links in News Feed
- Birthdays view had months in wrong order
- Last section of friend list was incomplete if you had fewer than 8 friends
- Notes with non-ASCII text were cut off at the end

This is a great update for the Facebook app, as it fixes a lot of bugs that people have been complaining about for a while. I have a question, though; why not add support for multitasking and task completion, in iOS 4, in this version. These are must have features, for uploading photos or video. With the release of iOS 4 just around the corner, you think they would have spent a little extra time on 3.1.3, and give it a full update, including support for iPad. Maybe Facebook 4.0 is coming soon?

Direct to Facebook Video Upload Coming to iOS 4

If you have an iPhone 3GS, you know you can upload video directly to YouTube, but there are no other sharing options, besides email or MMS. 9to5Mac uncovered this bit of code that would suggest we may be able to export video directly to Facebook, in the final release of iOS 4, which is due out June 21st.

There are currently other options to upload your video to Facebook, like with the official Facebook app, but it would be great to be able to upload right to Facebook from the Camera or Photos app. We’ll just have to wait and see.

Boxcar 3.0 Now Live In App Store!

Earlier this morning, Boxcar, an application that adds push notifications for services such as: Twitter, Facebook, Email, RSS, Atom and Growl. Was updated to version 3.0, which welcomes new features listed below:

- Revamped Inbox.

Facebook Videos Now Compatible with iPhone and iPad, via HTML5

The iPhone and iPod are incredible devices for veiwing the web, but when you come accross a flash video, all you see is a little blue lego peice. It has been long rumoured that Flash would eventually come to these devices, but with Adobe dropping the project recently, there is no hope of that now. We talked about HTML5 a while back, and how it was coming to many websites, via a company called Brightcove.

Facebook held a conference a few days ago, outlining some big changes coming to the site. One of those changes is to introduce HTML5 for all their videos, and it is now live. It hasn’t made it’s way to all videos, yet, as there so many videos on Facebook.

I did some tests on my iPad this morning. The first video I tried didn’t work. I just got a message saying the video could not be played on my device.

I tried a few more, and I eventually found one that works. This video was one I uploaded from my iPhone, so the resolution is poor.

This is a big step towards moving away from Flash on the web. With Apple shunning Adobe recently, we’ll see a lot more content providers moving towards HTML5. With HTML5 being compatible with everything, content providers will most likely find it it easier to offer content in just the one format.

Farmville Coming Soon To iPhone, iPod Touch & iPad?

Facebook fans will be excited to know that Farmville is on it’s way to iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad and other mobile devices. Supererogatory noticed the domain names farmvilleipad.com, farmvilleiphone.com, farmvilleandroid.com and farmvillesms.com were registered with DNStination Inc. DNStination is a third party that also holds farmville.com, the official website for Zynga’s popular online game.

What is Farmville?

The game allows members of Facebook to manage a virtual farm by planting, growing and harvesting virtual crops and trees, and raising livestock.^[2] Since its launch in June 2009,^[3] FarmVille has become the most popular game application on Facebook, with over 82.4 million active users and over 23.8 million fans in April 2010.^[4] The total FarmVille users are over 20% of the users of Facebook and over 1% of the population of the world.
