Priced at $0.99 Angry Birds is a game with a lot of replay value, especially if you take on the challenge of getting 3 stars in each of 165 available levels.

The Plot

The mean green pigs have stolen the birds’ eggs for dinner. Now the angry birds must eliminate them in order to recover their eggs, but the pigs have taken refuge under structures made from several materials which the birds must destroy.

Though silly and absurd, the plot adds some fun and comic relief to the game.

Controls and Gameplay

The game is incredibly simple and straightforward to play. You make use of a decent type of physics engine to launch the birds from a slingshot and into the structures where the pigs are located in.

Each structure has one or more weak points which you must find to destroy it and eliminate the pigs with as little birds as possible.

Most birds have special abilities which are triggered by tapping on the screen while the launched bird is in mid air. Each ability is unique and has it’s own purpose, such as breaking ice blocks, dashing into wood blocks, throwing grenades, some even explode, destroying the hardest stone blocks.

Music and Sounds

The music in Angry Birds is probably my only complaint. With 165 levels of game play, you’d expect more than just one song for the title, and more than one victory music theme. At first it’s fun to listen to, but after 90 levels it can get pretty old. It is perhaps the only weak point in the game.

The sounds, on other hand, are hilarious. Despite there not being that much variety, hearing the birds cheer and “woot!” while in mid air is always amusing. The pigs laugh and snort when they barely escape annihilation, daring you to try your worst against them.

Conclusion

Angry Birds is a fun and highly addictive game. With 165 levels to play, funny plot, hilarious sounds and tons of replay value, at $0.99, Angry Birds is a definite bargain and a must download. Oh, and did I mention new levels are often released on version updates?

Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars HD Coming To iPad 9/9

Already available on iPhone and iPod Touch, Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars will be making it’s way to the iPad for $9.99. Expect all the goodness that was packed into the iPhone version (intuitive Multi-Touch user interface controls, adjusted difficulty levels and iTunes customizable radio station Independence Radio) except with updated high definition graphics.

Currently details are limited, we will update you once the app is available in the App Store on September 9th. I’m pumped for this release! Are you?

Apple’s Ping Tops 1 Million Users In 48 Hours

Apple has announced in a Press Release that in less than 48 hours since it’s launch on Wednesday, more than one million user have joined “Ping”, it’s new music-oriented social network. Here’s the Press Release:

Apple Posts iOS 4.2 Preview Page For iPad

Apple has posted a new page on their website previewing the features that iOS 4.2 will bring to the iPad. They highlight features such as Multitasking, Folders, Printing, AirPlay (streaming audio/video), Game Center, Even Better Mail, Text search in Safari web browser, and more.

iOS 4.2 will be available in November to iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch users.

Steve Jobs: We Are Activating 230,000 iOS Devices A Day

If there is one thing that Steve Jobs enjoys doing the most while delivering the keynote besides using the word magical and announcing new iDevices, it has to be sharing the stats reflecting Apple domination in the gadgets world. Yesterday’s event was no different. Apple CEO while playing the numbers game disclosed that the Cupertinos are activating 230,000 iOS devices a day.

Mind you these figures only includes newly bought iOS devices and doesn’t include cases of users upgrading from iPhone 3GS to 4 and so on. But did the Apple CEO stop there? No, he went on and made an indirect attack at Google accusing the search engine giants of including the updated devices in their Android device activation counts.

Keeping this gestures aside, it is only fair that Apple gets to see such activation rate as it truly deserves it for the amazing and innovative lineup of products it has brought us over the years.

Facebook Connect Pulled From Ping?

With the release of iTunes 10, comes Apple’s new music social network, “Ping”. Although I don’t see myself using this very much, I set up my account. It was pretty simple. You just sign in with your Apple ID, add a picture, and add some info in “About Me”. There was also an option to add Facebook Connect. I set this up as well.

So, today I go to take a look at my Ping, and Facebook Connect is gone. What gives, Apple? There has been lots of speculation going around the net today that Apple pulled it, due to some incompatibilities. Others are saying it was pulled before the release (answering why it took so long to release yesterday). I took these screenshots while setting up my account yesterday. As you can see, Facebook Connect was there.

Also, when I log in to my Facebook account, I can still see iTunes Ping, in my Applications Settings.

What is your speculation on why Facebook Connect was removed from Ping? Do you even plan on using Ping? Comment below. rorypiper

iOS 4.2 Coming in November. iOS 4 Features for iPad!

Another big announcement today, was that iOS 4.2 is just around the corner. iOS 4.1 will be here next week, but iOS 4.2 is coming in November.

This update is mainly for the iPad, and brings all the features of iOS 4 that we love on our iPhones, to the iPad. Something, that was kinda passed over was the fact that iOS 4.2 will finally unify all iOS devices under one firmware.

Along with Multitasking and folders, iPad will get wireless printing, and a new feature called AirPlay, allowing you to stream all media from you iPad to another device, like Apple TV.
