As baby apps go, this one takes the cake! Gwiggle from EdElder has been designed perfectly to make sure that we match each step with our baby as he progresses in his growth right from day one onwards. Just take a look at the fantastic features and you will know what I am talking about.

When we open up the app, we can see five different sections: Day 1, Dr. Gwiggle, Photo, Bubbles and Steps. Day 1 lets us record the baby’s details beginning with his name to horoscope sign. Dr. Gwiggle has a list of doctors that are looking after your baby. We can add up to five different doctors and fill in their contact information, as well as the date of the next appointment. This section also helps us keep track of our baby’s vaccinations. The basic types of vaccinations are already in the list, and we can add more according to our baby’s requirements.

Gwiggle lets us capture memories too. In the photo section, we can take pictures of our baby in the app itself, and then choose from among the beautiful frames given to store it. For things that may not be included in the other sections, we have the Bubbles section. Here we can add any ‘event’ or detail about our baby. We have to simply type in what we want, and it gets saved in the form of a bubble with the time and date.

The Steps section opens up to reveal five different things. The Tooth Fairy is a picture of a smiley representing our baby, and on each tooth we can write details like when it fell off. Whenever we do this about any tooth, that tooth is marked by a star.

The Growth Chart shows how our baby has been growing in terms of height and weight. The next tab is the Countdown Calendar, and here we can enter dates in anticipation of events in our baby’s life. The Firsts tab is self-explanatory, helping us record our baby’s milestones. The Family tab takes us to a picture of a pretty flower, and we can enter the names of our family members on each of the petals.

Gwiggle is a very comprehensive app in terms of essential features, and this makes it a winner among other baby books in the App Store. The graphics and details alone make it worth having, and it will add to the joys of seeing our baby grow up with. Here is to a beautiful childhood!

App Review: The Incident

RANDOM FALLING OBJECTS EVERYWHERE! That’s what The Incident is all about. Random falling crap. Not just 4 or 5 random falling objects but 1000′s of different items. Ranging from doors to toolboxes, cars to cactus plants in pots. Your objective is simple! Avoid the random falling crap and climb to the very top! With multiple stages and save points throughout this game, it’s actually a great time.

It uses the iPhone’s accelerometer to move your character left and right with taps to the screen for jumps. If you get stuck, you just shake the device and you generate some sort of “static anti-matter field” that allows you to float to the very top of the pile. Collecting coins and floating on balloons is one of the objectives of the game, allowing for more lives gained as well as the occasional hardhat power up. Perfect for those times when you need a short distraction!

You know those racer vehicles that you see around town? Ever wonder what they would look like with gratuitous amounts of flames, chrome and a sweet spoiler? Wonder no more! With the Trick Your Ride app you can take even the most boring of cars and trucks and completely pimp them out!

Choices between different types of rims, spoilers, paint decals and exhaust, allows you to transform that boring soccer van in to an AWESOME VAN! I loved the way that I was able to take even a little 3 year old’s plastic car and make it look like it was a speed demon roadster! A little more variation for some of the options would have been nice but as it is, it is very entertaining.

App Review: Shopkick – Just Walk In and Collect! (US Only)

Shopkick is a revolutionary app that gives the user free rewards for simply walking into stores and completing special offers. This may seem too good to be true for some people and in a way it is. The whole idea behind the app is to get people to walk into a store such as BestBuy and then get them to roam the store searching for a few special offers which will earn the user kickbucks [shopkick's currency]. In the process of doing this you may happen to stumble upon new ink cartridges for your printer or perhaps you need a new flash drive because you misplaced your favorite one.

The idea of luring people into the store for kickbucks is the business side of shopkick, but now let’s get down to the pro’s and cons about the app itself. Every way to make kickbucks is fairly easy, the hard part is obtaining the massive amounts needed to get a decent reward. I’m trying to get free BestBuy gift cards which cost 500 kickbucks for each $2 added to the card, so a $20 gift card for BestBuy cost 5,000 kickbucks. There isn’t a big variety of rewards at the moment, but the app is apparently still in it’s beta stage so there should be more rewards in future updates.

There currently are three different ways to earn kickbucks; checking in to a store, walking in to a store or completing a special offer. Checking in to a store is the easiest to do because I can check-in to a store that is up to six miles away, but I will only get two kickbucks at maximum. At this rate I will have to check into 250 stores to get my $2 Bestbuy gift card. Walking in to a store is a little different then a check-in, but it’s not much harder. Walking in to a store can get the user as much as 75 kickbucks in one walk-in.

This is where the kickbucks start rolling in for my gift card, but a walk-in requires the user to physically walk into the store and if the GPS shopkick uses says your not within 300 ft. of the store your not going to get your kickbucks, even if you’re actually in the store. The walk-in can only be done in a few major chain stores due to the app still being in beta stage.

The last way to get kickbucks is to complete special offers by scanning products that are inside of stores using Occipital’s RedLaser technology. [I highly recommend RedLaser to all iPhone users.] This can get you about 50 kickbucks and is fairly easy. A great part about shopkick is that the user never has to spend a penny. I have so far earned 4 free songs from Napster and I’m close to earning my first BestBuy $2 gift card. I recommend this app for everyone to download.
