iPhone 4 – Always Use Protection

Just look at it, 2 glass screens, a sexy design, and perhaps the best smart-phone designed. Oh no! I purchased a case and it didn’t protect my iPhone, the horror! There are a few concerns for anybody who is still trying to find the right case for their iPhone 4:

Protection
Look
Expense

I want to show off my iPhone’s back screen and it’s unique shape, but only if the protection for it is great. So this post will teach you a few tips on case combos and protection for your iPhone 4.

What Case?

If your absolutely crazy, well you can just go naked for your iPhone 4. The top 2 clear iPhone 4 protection options are the Ghost-Armor full body protection and the ZAGG invisibleSHIELD. These are both a must for any iDevice user and should be added regardless of what protection you’re interested in for your iDevice.

Just For Looks:

If you’re one of those people who don’t care about drop protection for your phone or just are extremely careful, listen up.

STORMTROOPER EDITION - This is a white iphone with a black Apple Bumper case or vice versa. The look is simply to die for! However, even with screen protectors you are still highly vulnerable to drop damage. The Apple bumper is available for $30.00 from the Apple Store and website.

SWITCHEASY NUDE - This is a thin snap on case which offers protection on all sides of your iPhone except the front screen, and you also get the unique features of a dock protector and a headphone jack protector. This case costs $23.00 with shipping, and is available at www.switcheasy.com.

If you fall into the “Just For Looks” category, then I suggest at least adding on a full body clear protection such as the Ghost-Armor or the ZAGG invisibleSHIELD.

Just Right:

Now if you’re a person who tends to care about their device a little more, and are willing to sacrifice some things for others, than this is just the thing for you.

First off, you should automatically add either a Ghost-Armor clear coat, or a ZAGG invisibleSHIELD.

SWITCHEASY COLOURS – This case is silicon with a “Jelly Bean” home button, which I highly suggest to purchase. The accessories once again are unique, featuring the dock and headphone jack protection. This case also allows the user to easily access all buttons and still shows off the unique design of the iPhone 4 while providing sufficient protection. This case costs $18.00 with shipping, and available at www.switcheasy.com.

SPECK PIXELSKIN HD – This is another silicon case which is all around awesome and is more basic in terms of accessories. It’s a great product and will protect your iPhone and still show off its sleek look. This case costs $30.00, and is available in local stores and at www.speckproducts.com

Unfortunately, both these cases cover up the back side of your iPhone, but for better protection, I’d say it’s well worth it.

A Touch Too Much:

If your either an extremist or a klutz, then take a look.

New iPhone 4 Skins Fixing the Antenna Issue

We recently heard that Apple’s solution to the smart phone antenna issue, is to put the phone in a case. When it comes to Apple’s iPhone, the design is quite elegant, and most people do not want to put their iPhone in a case. Apple’s Bumper only covers the antenna, but still changes the look of the overall design.

If you don’t like having your iPhone in a case, there are other options. There are simple skins to cover your iPhone, and some of them are now coming with coverage for the antenna, fixing the attenuation issue. I have received skins from ZAGG, Gelaskins, and Ghost Armor, and they all come with coverage for the antenna.

ZAGG InvisibleSHIELD

I was one of the early adopters of this one. I have always loved ZAGG’s products, and jumped at the iPhone 4 invisibleSHIELD when it was released. In this case I got burned, as the original release didn’t include the antenna coverage. I have contacted ZAGG to see if they can send me the antenna coverage, as well, but I have not received a response yet.

Gelaskins

Gelaskins have always been super stylish, with lots of great designs from lots of great artists. Their iPhone 4 skins are no different. It comes with coverage for the back and the front (excluding the screen), and includes coverage for the sides of the antenna. This is enough to cover the bridge between antennae, solving the attenuation issue.

Ghost Armor

Ghost Armor is another clear protection for the iPhone 4. Their full body kit comes with full coverage all the way around the antenna. I have not used Ghost Armor on an iPhone 4, but I am using it on my iPad, and I can barely tell anything is on there. It is really clear, with no “orange peel” effect. It is really smudge resistent, and any smudges you might get on there, wipe off with just your finger.

I also have some skins on the way from Phantomskinz, which also include front, back, and antenna coverage.

I’ll have more in-depth reviews of these, if I ever get my hands on an iPhone 4, but this should give you some other choices, besides a big bulky case.

iPad Cases & Skins Round Up

We’re merely days away from the iPad’s launch in the US, and most likely only weeks away everywhere else. I plan on getting one as soon as I can. If you’re like me, you hate getting your new toys all scratched up. I’ve started looking around for some kind of case or skin or something to protect my new iPad, and I thought I would share my findings.

InvisibleShield from ZAGG

First and foremost we have to mention the invisibleSHIELD, from ZAGG.com. They have started taking pre-orders for their InvisibleShield for iPad, and presumably be shipping shortly after the iPad’s release.

iSkin

iSkin.com have been protecting Apple devices for a while now, and they plan to continue on with the iPad. They don’t have anything to look at yet, but they have a “Notify Me” page on their website. Click the image below to sign up to be notified when they will have iPad accessories ready.

Hard Candy

Hard Candy has a nice, stylish selection of iPad protection from a net book style sleeve, to a hard shell “candy-like” case. They provide full body protection for the iPad, with easy access to the screen and buttons.

Quirky

This company’s iPad case is called “Cloak”. This kind of looks like the official Apple iPad case, but is way more stylish. It opens like a book, and has a kickstand, but it comes in a few different colours, unlike the Apple case. The company has gone into production with this one, and is currently taking pre-orders.

ModulR

This company is making some exciting accesories for the iPad. As the name suggests, it is a modular system, with one case that can attach to many different mounts and accessories. There is a car mount, a wall mount, a kick stand and more. This is something I plan to check out, when the products are available. Their site says, coming Summer 2010.

These are just a few that I thought were interesting. As the iPad is released around the world, we’ll see many more cases, skins, and accessories for the iPad.
